Kindergarten Math Domain: Measurement and Data
In this domain, Kindergarten students will be introduced to measurement and data in order to describe, compare, and classify objects. With the help of eSpark Learning’s standards-aligned resources, teachers can confidently teach students these brand-new concepts and accelerate their comprehension through fun and engaging videos, interactive games, and practice assignments. Here’s a closer look at each Common Core standard within this domain:
Longer or Shorter?
In this standard, students will compare and contrast different objects, describing their differences in length using terms like ‘more of’ and ‘less of.’
Heavy or Light?
Kindergarten students will continue studying objects to identify which ones have ‘more of’ or ‘less of’ mass and weight.
How Many in Each Group?
Students will use their previous knowledge of categorization to count, classify, and sort various objects into different groups.
Sort Objects
In this standard, students will continue classifying objects into different categories.
Measurement and Data is one of five domains included in the Kindergarten math standards. During this phase of learning, students can expect to grow and develop their skills in:
eSpark Learning also supports teachers in the classroom, providing data and progress reports to monitor students’ learning. With this information, teachers are more confident and empowered to fine-tune and tailor their curriculums to maintain a dynamic learning environment and provide individualized lessons as they see fit.
Below are examples of how eSpark Learning resources are aligned to each Common Core standard within the Kindergarten Measurement and Data domain:
Longer or Shorter?
Directly compare two objects with a measurable attribute in common, to see which object has "more of"/"less of" the attribute, and describe the difference.
Students can tap into several different instructional videos, practice assignments, and games to compare and sort various objects (including dinosaurs!) in this standard.
Heavy or Light?
Directly compare two objects with a measurable attribute in common, to see which object has "more of"/"less of" the attribute, and describe the difference.
In one of eSpark’s engaging games, students will hop aboard the Dinosaur train and use larger and smaller dinosaurs to compare and contrast sizes and weights.
How Many in Each Group?
Classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count.
Sort Objects
Classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count.
Through an interactive game with Peg and Cat, students will practice counting and sorting simultaneously by putting letters in mailboxes.
