Digital Promise Awards eSpark Research-Based Design Product Certification

With so many options for online learning available, one thing that can set a program apart from the others is a curriculum grounded in proven educational research. We are proud to announce that eSpark has earned the Research-Based Design Product Certification from Digital Promise. The Product Certification serves as a rigorous, reliable signal for district and school administrators, educators, and families looking for evidence of research-based edtech products.

Our team submitted evidence to Digital Promise confirming a link between eSpark’s curriculum design and established research on how students learn. The seven elements of eSpark’s Theory of Learning are each backed by rigorous educational studies to ensure academic growth and retention for every student.

“At eSpark we care deeply about providing a high-quality educational experience that meets the unique needs of all learners. We use the latest research from learning sciences to guide our pedagogy and design, along with listening to the feedback of teachers and students to build an impactful and easy-to-use experience,” said Ray Lyons, Vice President of Product at eSpark. “We’re really proud to receive this credential as recognition of our research-based approach.”

Digital Promise is a nonprofit organization at the forefront of accelerating innovation within education and closing the digital learning gap. Their Product Certification uses a competency-based learning framework, developed in consultation with Digital Promise’s Learner Variability Project advisory board, expert researchers in the Learning Sciences field, and nearly 50 educators across the United States. Only 50 products have received the certification since February 2020 when it launched.

“Educators and researchers continue to uncover important insights about how people learn,” said Christina Luke Luna, Senior Director of Lifelong Learning Pathways at Digital Promise. “Digital Promise’s Research-Based Design Product Certification recognizes the edtech products that incorporate research about learning into their design and development. Congratulations to eSpark Learning for demonstrating that research informs their product design!”

We are honored to receive this certification reflecting our commitment to providing research-based math and ELA instruction. Administrators and educators can confidently rely on eSpark as a qualified differentiated learning program.
