These games will take your second graders on exciting adventures, while familiarizing them with important reading concepts. 1. Levi’s Long Vowels Parade
In this game, students help Levi build his parade floats by identifying words with long vowel sounds.
Standard Alignment: 2.RF.3.a – Distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-syllable words.
2. Word Sort
Your students will learn about r-controlled vowels as they help this friendly mouse get his cheese!
Standard Alignment: 2.RF.3.b – Know spelling-sound correspondences for additional common vowel teams.
3. Quincy’s Sight Word Dig
Help Quincy find where she buried her bones by recognizing and reading irregularly spelled words.
Standard Alignment: 2.RF.3.f – Recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.
4. Wombat Quest
Uh oh, Bertie Bison is lost! Wayne the Wombat needs your students’ help finding her by answering questions about key details in a text.
Standard Alignment: 2.RI.1 – Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
5. The Witch in the Shoe
As students follow along to this read-aloud game, they will practice describing how words and phrases supply rhythm and meaning in the story.
Standard Alignment: 2.RL.4 – Describe how words and phrases (e.g., regular beats, alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song.
6. Wombat Quest – Hidden Treasure
In this game, students practice asking and answering questions to help Wayne the Wombat solve clues and find the hidden treasure.
Standard Alignment: 2.RL.1 – Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
